Description
Artichokes, perennial thistles, are grown in California in the USA, so we on the east coast don't get much chance to see the large striking flowers or the entire tall plants, both of which are exotic around here. This photo taken in mid-July in Chanticleer garden, Wayne, Pennsylvania.

Beautiful, they do resemble the Canada Thistle that grows wild in northern Maine. Although they are a nuisance plant I still think they are quite beautiful! v/f

Thanks so much, Susan! (I googled Canada Thistle. A weed for humans, but a bounty for birds and butterflies! :)

Great shot. Kinda reminds me of a loaded pin cushion. Love the muted background-really sets off this great bloom

Beautiful photography as always, Byron. I'm curious now - they look like they belong to the thistle family. f/v ;-)

Beautiful shot, Byron! Never have seen a flowering artichoke before so didn't realize how beautiful they are! Thanks for sharing!

Wow, Thank you, I've never seen this flower, I am an artichoke lover. I have heard they grow best in Italy and California. I have been to the "Artichoke capitol of the World" in CA, and I there during the artichoke festival when everyone dressed in artichoke clothing! Not sure they still do that, it was in the 70's. Thank you for adding a new dimension to this exotic and tasty vegetable!!! fv and vote
