Description
An exquisite hybrid lotus flower in bloom is flanked by blue pickerel weed flowers. Under the flower are large lotus leaves, and a seed pod from a previously bloomed lotus flower. The lotus is of the genus, nelumbo, and the hybrid is named, Mrs. Perry D. Slocum (the wife of the hybridizer). A beautiful image for tranquil meditation. Photographed under ambient daylight, mild brightness/contrast adjustments and cropping. Lotus is a spiritual symbol seen widely in Hindu and Buddhist art. From a seed in a muddy pond bottom, the plant rises majestically above the pond on long stem, with leaves that shed water. The flower blooms exquisitely, never having been soiled by its muddy origins. A metaphor for the purity of the Soul.
