Description
A beautiful white aquilegia flower with golden anthers, I believe an aquilegia fragrans -- though I didn't sniff it at the time. Also known as columbine and granny's bonnet, aquilegias bloom in Springtime and are widely distributed in the Northern Hemisphere, I'm happy to say!

Just beautiful Byron. Love the pure white contrasting with the dark greens. Fantastic! Thanks for your comment and fav to "Evergreen." As for your question about if it was a gingo leaf, although it looks very much alike, it is a beautiful fern plant. Thanks again! Lorenzo

Folks, thank you so much for your features, lovely comments and promotions! Scheduled to have lumbar spinal fusion surgery next Monday, so it will probably be late May before I can be taking photos of flowers again. Thanks for your question, Jane. Many species do grow wild all over the northern Hemisphere, I read, but I shot this in a garden--might be my last before the surgery. : )

I always think of aquilegia as so delicate and not always immediatly noticed in gardens. This single bloom in delightful close up looks so strong and very noticeable! Maybe they grow wild where you are Byron?I wasn't sure from the description. So lovely to view this beautifully shaped and photographed flower. L/F
