Description
Photo of a single impatiens balfourii flower, with a long, thin, ripening seed pod above it, and my whimsical title. These small, pretty Himalayan natives are known as 'poor man's orchid', 'Kashmir balsam', and 'Balfour's touch-me-not'. Like other impatiens species, the seed pods open explosively to touch when ripe, scattering the seeds for several feet. Photographed in late Summer in a Pennsylvania garden.
