Description
Please dont be too disappointed! One of the common names for the lovely colchicum autumnale is Naked Lady because it is the only flowering bulb to bloom while dormant, ergo magical, before leaves sprout, ergo naked of leaves; poisonous, because the flowers contain colchicine, which is highly toxic except in tiny medicinal doses for gout.
I do apologize for the sensationalist title, and I hope once you look at these beautiful flowers youll consider forgiving me (the leaves you see are of other plants, apparently attempting to protect the ladies modesty). The more common names for this Fall-bloomer (oops there I go again...) are Autumn Crocus and Meadow Saffron. But it is not of the crocus genus, but of the colchicum, and it contains no saffron, but colchicine. Lots of misleading words and phrases here, but perhaps mild compared to what were experiencing in advertising, especially the political variety these days...

Hahaha... you had your "safe filter" come on for the title "naked" ladies. I was wondering what that would be about since you have flowers in this folder. :) I love Crocus (I wish they grew in Southern California for more than 5 minutes). Wonderful shot and amazingly humorous title. v.
Byron Varvarigos replied:
Thanks much, Angela glad you enjoyed my frivolity!: ) Colchicum might do a little better in Socal than the crocus genus?
