Description
Hummingbird Moth (Hemaris Thysbe) hovering and feeding on phlox nectar. Wings are beating about 70 times/second but look stationary-- shutter speed was 1/640 second. Reputedly the fastest flying insect, with speeds up to 30mph. Photographed on June 1 in a Pennsylvania garden.

I find hummingbird moths to be such interesting insects. If you are close enough they have such a loud buzz and they seem to fly to the flowers! This is a super image, great clarity and colors. vtd
