Description
Blue dasher dragonfly, with the rather amusing Latin species name of pachydiplax longipennis, resting on a lovely red/deep pink tropical water lily, whose Latin species name, nymphaea, complements that of the dragonfly nicely. Blue dashers are of the skimmer family, common and widely distributed in the USA. Mature males develop a bluish-white pruinescence on the back of the abdomen.
