Description
I wanted to take a few photos of a lovely hosta flower stalk that I spotted on this last day of Summer. As I looked closely at the only blooming flower on the stalk, I noticed a small green bee inside, not collecting pollen, just hanging out. As I took a few photos, another bee landed on the same flower and proceeded to make its way inside. It looked just like the bee that was already there: green head and thorax, striped black and light yellow abdomen. They began scrambling all over each other, and I couldn't tell if they were fighting, mating or whatever. After a minute or two, one flew out and away. The other ensconced itself way down into the center, groomed itself and then just seemed to relax. It looked just as it does now in this photo. I checked back about an hour later, and there was still a bee there. I'm wondering if it was looking for a warm place to spend the night, which tonight will get down into the forties. Any hymenoptera experts out there? :-)

Beautiful color and composition, Byron! Interesting story about the bees too -- The weekend warm spell brought out hundreds of lady bugs here - I guess they're all confused! Nice work Byron! :) fv
