Description
It occurs to me that the reason, if there is a reason, that I enjoy photographing flowers so much is that each one, to me, is a smile. Call it Nature's smile, or God's smile, or a floral smile, it's a sign that it's good to be alive!
These are tiny Spring Beauties, native to temperate zone eastern North America, and are abundant in forests, wetlands, roadsides, parks and lawns. They flash their ultraviolet smiles to pollinating insects, indicating available nectar. We humans cannot see much of a smile until we get really close, because the flowers are less than an inch across, but we are rewarded by the most charming pink and white curving smiles when close up. We are also rewarded with edible roots with a radish flavor, if we care to pick and peel the chickpea-size tubers. The scientific name of these little beauties is claytonia virginica, and sometimes can be seen as pale pink carpets on an undisturbed lawn. Other common names are Eastern Spring Beauty, Virginia Spring Beauty, and Fairy Spud.

Really appreciate the way you are so evidently in touch with nature Byron. Beautifully delicate flowers. Personally I would have titled this "Lean on Me", however, I have used that title before ;^) V&F :^)

Ashley thanks so much for your appreciation and sharing!I'd also thought of other titles, eg, just the two of us, they float thru the air with the greatest of ease, sweethearts...: )
