Description
Tiny hoverfly perching on a small, lovely spiderwort with yellow anthers and delicate blue and white stamen hairs. There are dozens of species of spiderworts, a flower native to the Americas, and thousands of species of hoverflies, in every continent except Antarctica. Hoverflies are an important part of the environment: the larva eat either decaying matter or pest insects like aphids, and the adults, which feed on nectar, are pollinators.
